Greater Toronto Area candidates are invited to submit their visions.
Toronto with its Metropolitan self-governance structure had been dubbed "People City" in the 1970's.
During those times, Toronto had presented a
forward-looking humanistic model of urban development,
which featured low-crime, clean city streets,
extremely safe neighbourhoods, and low rates of
poverty, which was truly the envy of the world.
However, with the advent of the new Toronto
"Megacity", and the breakdown of regional civic
responsibility, there has been growing alienation,
economic disparity associated with poverty, and
homelessness in particular, which have created urban
cultures for violence and ensuing crime. Many voters
in the Greater Toronto Area are seeking candidates who
can help re-affirm the quality-of-life priorities
which had guided the former decentralized Metropolitan
government structure.
We are seeking for this Section and in our upcoming
print edition, submissions from Mayoral and other
municipal candidates who have a progressive vision for
the City of Toronto. E-mail your vision of the GTA so
that we can publish it.
