Ottawa Spas unite for Women’s Addiction Services

OTTAWA  – In recognition of National Addiction Awareness Week, the Amethyst Women’s Addiction Centre has partnered with local spas in the community for a fundraising initiative that seeks to raise both funds and awareness for women’s addiction services in the Ottawa area.

Amethyst is committed to the health and wellness of its clients, which is one of the reasons why the spa collaboration was so fitting.

Several spas will be giving their clients the chance to donate to Amethyst after receiving a given spa treatment.  At the end of the month, each participating spa will draw one of their clients’ names to receive a promotional gift.  This type of community support will have a direct impact on women in the Ottawa area who use Amethyst’s services, and will help aid their recovery.

“This type of community support is extremely encouraging as it showcases the commitment local businesses have to women’s issues and addiction services,” said Amethyst’s Community and Media Relations Coordinator, Cynthia Waldmeier.  “It is absolutely fantastic that so many spas in Ottawa are willing to donate promotional gifts towards this very important local cause.”

For over 30 years, Amethyst – Ottawa’s only women’s addiction centre – has been helping local women fight addictions to alcohol, drugs and problem gambling.  Operating under a holistic philosophy of healing the entire woman rather than just band-aid treating the addiction, Amethyst has helped thousands of mothers, sisters and daughters overcome obstacles and put their best foot forward.  Amethyst’s community outreach programs also teach addiction awareness and prevention, helping women and children at risk of developing addictions.  Like most charities

“Donations to Amethyst are not exclusive to spas,” added Waldmeier.  “The upcoming holiday season is the perfect time for giving, and we would encourage anyone interested in donating to visit our website.”
