A 3D Hentai camgirl is replacing human models on Chaturbate

Projekt Melody is allegedly the first hentai camgirl in the world—another growing genre in animated porn. The 3D anime camgirl was designed by Digitrevx, a professional animator, and like human webcam models, she strips, teases, and interacts with her audience.

Today, there’s a lot of excitement about hentai—a relatively new category of porn that features the anime or manga subgenre. The word originates from the Japanese word ‘hentai seiyoku’ which means having a perverse or extreme sexual urge.

Hentai videos are becoming increasingly popular and millennials, in particular, are loving it. According to PornHub, the largest porn site in the world, hentai was the most-searched word on their website last year.

Animated porn is growing in popularity particularly because it features sexually explicit content and fantasies that aren’t exactly attainable with regular pornography. Anime porn even features cartoon characters from popular pop culture series with themes such as incest, rape, bestiality and much more.

Now, Melody has opened up a new genre in anime porn that is taking off very quickly. In just a few days, her videos have received wide reception with more than 200,000 views and thousands of fans. Dressed in a skimpy top that reveals what she often calls her “big ol’ anime titties”, Melody spends time giving lectures on her YouTube channel on whether Hentai can be termed porn or art.

“I think there's a higher demand for the odd and the fantastical,” said Melody in a report. “With art, it's flexible, you're allowed to explore your sexuality. And with real titties? No offence, but it's bound to the cruel weight of science, gravity, and bones that only go one way.”

ProjektMelody is an AI-powered virtual avatar of an anime woman who is the self-proclaimed first hentai camgirl in the world. Apart from giving “hot-takes” on Hentai porn on YouTube, Melody hosts regular live shows on adult cam model website Chaturbate. She strips, dances and even fondles herself to get tips from viewers, despite not being a real model.

However, there is still a human side to Melody. While she appears to resemble a live hentai character, Melody’s movement is being controlled by a real person behind the scenes—who is responsible for moving her arms and other parts of her body. When any of her over 14,000 followers engage her in a live chat, Melody’s speech is also controlled by a human who speaks into a microphone.

On her Chaturbate profile, Melody lists her location as ‘Virtual Little Tokyo’ and notes that it’s literally impossible for her to drink or smoke. Despite being birthed in July 2019, when the 3D anime camgirl joined Twitter, her profile lists her birthday as July 7, 2000.

From a little under 700 followers on Twitter during her first three days of launching, ProjektMelody now has over 350,000 followers on Twitter as of November 2020. Her growing popularity is now threatening human cam models who are questioning the eligibility of a 3D anime avatar on the platform.

For those who even try to search for similar Hentai models on Chaturbate, they get an error page, since all other cam models on the platform are human.

Lennox May, a cam model, who has been in the adult industry for almost 10 years, spoke of her experience after watching one of Melody’s streams.

“From a technology standpoint I can't argue that the technology and creation of the character is definitely made by someone with talent,” said May, who has been doing live shows for 3 years now.

May believes Melody—or any other 3D anime camgirl— should have their own unique platform different from human models. She notes that unlike Melody, human models are still emotionally connected to their act and this can be a bit of a disadvantage to them.

“A model has to keep up appearances when they have trolls in their room, or when put in an awkward situation with a customer who is being rude or asking for things that we do not feel comfortable doing,” she said.

Unlike human adult cam models, Melody isn’t affected by the stigmatization of whether she would be recognized in the real world, stalked or even harassed. An animated character has the free will to act and react however they want, said May.

Digitrevx, Melody’s designer, renders her appearance, speech and physics in real-time with the help of Unity, a popular videogame engine. He is one of many similar Japanese anime-style video content creators known as “V-tubers”. When asked what his inspiration for Melody’s design was, Digitrevx noted that it was a combination of Hyperdimension Neptunia, an anime series and video game, and also, Motoko Kusanagi, the lead character in the popular manga and anime series Ghost in the Shell.

While there are other v-tubers like Yomemi, Moemi and Mirai Akari who have been able to build a considerable fan base, Melody’s cam girl style makes her stand out. She has swiftly become a multiplatform phenomenon, growing a strong following on YouTube, Twitter, Patreon, and even PornHub.

For a model to sign up on Chaturbate, they are required to sign several user agreements and verify their identity in a very procedure that is quite strict, to ensure that the platform isn’t compromised by impersonation. Melody said she followed all the required procedures while signing up on the platform and doesn’t agree that her lack of risk makes her undeserving to become a cam model.

“It makes me sad that [other models] don't want me there,” she said. “I don't agree with the argument that because I'm safer, and less likely to have stalkers, that I shouldn't be allowed to stream.”

Melody believes that being a cam girl isn’t defined by how it affects the model’s personal life but by the content they create and the community they build for themselves.

“I think it's a dangerous precedent to tell future cam models that you are somehow less deserving of being a model, unless you're putting yourself at risk,” she said.

May is one of many other human cam girl models on Chartubate who feel like Melody’s presence creates an unfair advantage.

“Overall, from a scientific and technology perspective, I think that ProjektMelody is genius, but that it needs to be presented to the world in a way that is still fair to everyone else,” May said.

Some other models still question how Melody was able to get verified successfully, especially since her character and theme is quite new to Chaturbate or adult cam modelling in general.

“There are 1000's of models who try all day spending hours more than the average workweek to get to the front page of a cam site,” May said. “Some never do.”

While the technology to full power an adult anime cam girl is still in its test phase, Melody is just an example of successful this new genre would be, and it is only a matter before we begin to witness more anime models like her.
