Online Dating: Top profile building tips

When you think about it, your profile page on the online dating website is the first impression that anyone is going to have of you. This means that you should put extra time and effort into this specific page on your site, and also ensure that it has been constructed in the right way to make you stand out above the rest.

Of course, it is easy to get swamped with all of the millions of profile pages that you will have seen of both the same sex as you, and the opposite sex, but the best thing that you can do is to start fishing – look at the profile pages of other people on the site and learn from theirs. This means to pay special attention to the things that have made those pages stand out to you, and jot down the things that you hated. The chances are – what lured you in will lure others in also, and what pushes you away will again, do the same.

We will start with the basics:

· Your profile picture – do you really have any idea how important this is to other daters? It has been shown and proven that most people will simply flick right past a profile that has no picture. Do you want to flicked right past? No – we didn’t think so. Choose a profile picture that says as much about you as possible. Make it a good picture, but not a lie. You are not 25, don’t try to be. What’s the point in putting a ten year old picture up anyway? If you like fishing, partying, knitting, stamp collecting; put a picture up showing off what you love the most. This will say a whole bunch more than a meaningful picture alone. No nudity either – this is pointless and either makes you look like an arrogant idiot, or an easy lay.

· Your specifics – Don’t lie. You WILL get found out. Be honest about everything as much as you can. If you have kids, put that you have kids. Put your right age. Put your religion, sex, preferences…. Every slot that it tells you to fill out – do so! You want to meet your perfect match, right? How are you going to do that when you are lying right from the word go?

· Your “About ME”- Don’t make this too long because people will get bored. Don’t make it too short or it will look as if you have nothing to say. Be to the point – say what you have to say and get the hell out of there! There is no point in using long and complicated words, but at the same time, don’t use text jargon; abbreviations are not really that sexy.

In conclusion, you need to make your profile page as personal to you as you can, while at the same time remembering that people are rather fickle creatures. If you don’t get your point across as soon as possible, you run the risk of people getting bored and flicking to the next profile.
