How Self-Publishing in Ottawa is Better than Create Space

Average Self-Published CreateSpace Authors Makes Less Than $100 (Per Year) on Amazon AgoraBooks.ca in Ottawa helps ensure better sales through better quality.

While the word average makes it difficult to project sales for authors on Amazon’s CreateSpace, research has shown that most make a paltry less than $100 per year. According to Derek Murphy, a book designer, indie author supporter and marketing guru, “I don't think there is an "average" - the vast majority of books sell less than ten copies. $100 a year, as John K. says, is a good guess, but if that's "average", consider than 50% of the books published don't make even that much.”

“Actually I'd bet it's far more than 50%. In my experience, at least 90% of books will fail, maybe even 95-99%. "Fail"= earn less than $100 a year.”

Reporting for CNet.com, David Carnoy wrote, “Again, because the barrier to entry is so low, the majority of self-published books are pretty bad. If I had to put a number on it, I’d say less than 5 percent are decent and less than 1 percent are really good.”

According to The Guardian, “Almost a third of published authors make less than $500 (£350) a year from their writing, according to a new survey, with around a half of writers dissatisfied with their writing income.”The data comes from researched undertaken by Digital Book World which got responses from 1,879 published authors: 13% traditionally published, 56% indie and 31% both.

The numbers do not inspire would-be authors into taking up the profession, but they’ll be glad to know that they can be improved by taking a crucial step in publishing their books.

It is common for indie authors to think that Amazon’s CreateSpace is their ticket to becoming a world-renown, best-selling author. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

True to their word, they offer free publishing tools such as formatting tools and templates, a cover creator, an online preview that give you a feel of what your book will look like once published and PDF proofs. What they don’t tell you is that you need professionals to handle different aspects of any book.

But indie authors need professionals, who’ll edit, proofread, design an appealing cover and and market and promote it the book. You can’t do all these by yourself. And that’s where Agora Publishing comes in; they are masters in internal graphic and book cover design, copyediting, book website design, writing for rich and informative promotional articles, printing and distributing your books.

WFMJ reports to all aspiring authors, “Do you have an old manuscript which you think has the potential to be a commercial success or do you seek to spread further social awareness through your research? Agora Publishing will do what it takes to provide you with a fabulously produced self-published book based upon its tremendous experience and community-focused ethic.”

The importance of hiring professionals who will, in turn, focus on making your book worthwhile for your readers cannot be underscored. Agora Publishing succeeds where CreateSpace falls short.
