Ottawa's Farm Boy Serves Up Artificial Ingredients From Scratch - Linked to Cancer

This is Jani, your food and politics blogger in our nation's capital.  Follow my daily and weekly column here in The Canadian to find out Ottawa's most amazing cuisine as well as food you might wish to avoid.

Now, one thing which I find upsetting is supermarkets and other food establishments which try to sell us on the quality and health benefits of their food, while dumping sh-t in food.  Such food doesn't nourish the body, mind and spirit all that wekk -- rather such "food" needlessly leads to health problems.

I can tell you that Farm Boy is one of my favourite grocers in Ottawa.  Their fresh fruit and vegetable section is awesome.

Unlike bigger supermarket chains like Loblaws, Farm Boy systematically goes to the docks where food is being imported.  Farm Boy's reps then seek to hand pick the very best food both from the docks where food is being received from abroad and the best food from local area farmers.

Unfortunately, their prepared foods are not all to that conscientious standard.

I spotted one of their most offensive products recently.

That was their Maple Walnut Loaf from “Scratch”.

Sounds delicious doesn't it?

Well it Maple Syrup season.  So, they must be using the finest 100% Canadian Maple Syrup in their Loaf.  Right?

But alas – No!

Checking the ingredients reveals that Farm Boy has dumped “Artificial Maple Flavour” into their Loaf.  Now, are you kidding me?!

You're going to market to us grocery shoppers that you have made a maple loaf from scratch using artificial ingredients?

Artificial Maple Syrup has been linked to cancer in Olardy.  Its human manufactured high fructose-corn syrup content has also been linked to diabetes by Mercola.com and other investigative sources.

When did grandma ever put “artificial ingredients” in her baked goods?  If you value your health, avoid the mysterious "artificial ingredients" mantra in anything you eat.

Once again human health has been sacrificed by a desire to pursue commercial profit with the use of a marketing ploy.

This Maple Loaf is not the only Farm Boy product professing to be “from scratch” and using less than wholesome artificial and so-called “natural flavours” which include artificial / and questionable “natural vanilla”

Hey Farm Boy.. how about using some actual maple syrup and vanilla in your loafs go along with your amazing fresh fruit and vegetables?

And, please stop claiming that your loafs are from "scratch" while lacing them with artificial ingredients and preservative agents.
