Walk against Parkinson's disease

(NC)—Imagine living in a body which has turned against you, battling the extremes of constant involuntary movement, or worse not being able to move at all. That's the reality for more than 100,000 Canadians living with Parkinson's disease - a neurodegenerative disease that causes tremor, slowness, stiffness, balance problems and rigidity of the muscles. Other symptoms including loss of sense of smell, depression, sleep disturbances and changes in thinking ability, make every day living a constant struggle.

Although there is no cure, there are many promising research projects underway, funded by Parkinson Society Canada, looking at finding and understanding the causes and developing better treatments. If you have Parkinson's disease or you know someone who does, we can help. We have 10 regional partners and 240 chapters and support groups, who provide educational workshops, conferences, seminars, a toll-free National Information and Referral line, printed resources, and supportive services. We're here for every step along your Parkinson's journey.

This September, approximately 14,000 participants in 90 communities coast to coast will take part in Parkinson SuperWalk. They will celebrate their personal heroes who battle life with Parkinson's every day and share their victory over the challenges that living with Parkinson's presents. Their goal is to help Parkinson Society Canada reach this year's $3 million target so that we can continue to meet the growing need for support.

Parkinson SuperWalk is a celebration of life, family and support—a celebration of living well in spite of Parkinson's. Come out and make a difference to people with Parkinson's in your community.
