Air Canada Adds Daily Direct Flights between Sydney and Montreal This Summer

Air Canada has added a new daily direct flight to its schedule. This flight would move between Sydney, N.S., and Montreal and would be availablefrom late June to early September.

The flight would set offfrom J.A. Douglas McCurdy Sydney Airport at 6:00 a.m. and return from Montreal's Pierre Elliott Trudeau airport at 1:40 p.m. The airline also reduced the number of daily flights to Halifax and Toronto from three a day to two a day this summer, says a report on CBC News

Air Canada has also recently adjusted its schedule through to April 30 to cover 98 percent of its planned flying following Transport Canada's closure of Canadian airspace to Boeing 737 MAX aircraft operations. This was done in order to comply with the safety regulations. The airline grounded its 24 737 MAX aircraft after Boeing announced that deliveries of its 737 MAX are currently suspended.

The airline has also adjusted its May schedule to further optimize its fleet and re-accommodate customers. It has totally removed the 737 MAX flying from its schedule until at least July 1, 2019, pending the time the government Okays the return to service of the 737 MAX. This is in order to provide customers with certainty for booking and travel.

This is following the crashes of Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 which recently rocked the aviation industry, sparking numerous investigations, and resulting in the grounding of hundreds of Boeing 737 Max jets worldwide.

"The Boeing 737 MAX accounted for six percent of Air Canada's total flying, but there is a domino effect from removing the 737s from our fleet that impacts the schedule and ultimately will impact some customers. We have been working very hard to minimize that impact," said LucieGuillemette, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Air Canada, in the press release.

"To bring certainty to our schedule for our customers when booking and travelling, we are revising our schedule until July and we have taken several steps to continue delivering substantially all of our planned capacity through our global network.

"Customers who have travel plans between now and July can be reassured that we will keep them informed every step of the way as we revise our schedule. We have a deep global network and many partner airlines to provide solutions so serving our customers and minimizing any disruption is our first priority. We remain committed to delivering the same safe, reliable transportation customers expect from Air Canada. Customers can continue to book and travel on Air Canada with full confidence," said Ms.Guillemette.
