West Virginia UFO reports rise above U.S. national average

Usually quiet West Virginia has seen an uptick in UFO reporting during October 2014 with several "low to the ground" reports, according to cases logged with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) in their witness reporting database. Here are cases filed in October that also occurred during the month of October. Investigation follow-ups will be made for each case with MUFON's West Virginia State Director Fred Saluga.

Three ‘football field sized’ UFOs reported low by multiple West Virginia witnesses

Ten West Virginia witnesses near Marmet working a coal plant evening shift reported watching three triangle-shaped UFOs the size of football fields silently moving under 500 feet, according to testimony in Case 60631.

The incident occurred at 10 p.m. on October 12, 2014, at the coal plant along Winifrede Hollow Road.

"The plant was down and there was no noises anywhere," the reporting witness stated. "Me and nine other guys had just finished doing pipe repair and were standing outside leaning against trucks. One of the guys pointed up and said, ‘What is that?’"

The group of workers looked up to see the first object.

"We all looked up and saw a triangle-shaped object outlined in white lights the size of a football field coming up the hollow from the southwest [Beckley, WV area]. It might have been 300 to 500 feet above us. It was moving very slow and made no noise. We watched for about 3 or 4 minutes as it disappeared over the trees."

The group watched as two more objects appeared.

Case 60750: October 9, 2014, 9 p.m., Barbour County in north-central West Virginia. The reporting witness was sitting on his father’s front porch with his sister and father when the object was first seen.

"I noticed a bright light rising above a tree at a distance and didn’t think anything of it until it paused in the sky followed by two more lights behind it," the witness stated. The three ventured into the backyard to photograph and videotape the object.

"And out of nowhere the bigger object just takes off at a speed that I can’t even describe and followed by the other two lights which weren’t as fast."

West Virginia UFOs: New sighting describes cigar UFO hovering under 500 feet

Reports of UFOS under 500 feet continue this month in West Virginia as a new witness at Charleston reported watching a cigar-shaped object hovering near I-64, according to testimony in Case 60861.

The witness was driving eastbound along I-64 approaching Charleston, WV, at 5:30 p.m. on October 15, 2014, when the object was first noticed.

"I observed an object that appeared to be cigar or cylinder-shaped, hovering maybe 500 feet above the city valley area, closer to the west end of the city," the witness stated. "The interstate at this point is elevated above the city, which sits closer to the river level. So my view of the object appeared to be straight on."

The witness stated that there were periods of rain in the area and he had stopped to take pictures of rainbows. While watching the rainbows, he noticed the hovering object and first thought it was an airplane as Yeager Airport is nearby.

UFO reported hovering near Morgantown, West Virginia

A West Virginia witness at Morgantown reported a hovering UFO "larger than a plane" about 1:15 a.m. today, according to testimony in Case 60886.

"I have been watching this thing for 30 minutes to an hour," the witness stated. "It stays in its location but moves around in a zigzag or dancing pattern side-to-side and up and down without actually going anywhere. It hovers in same spot for long periods."

The object seemed to get out of the way of a passing airplane.

"When a plane was approaching at about the same altitude, it moved up about double and then triple the space above the plane. After the plane passed, it came back down."
