Ottawa Pride shows, OC Transpo expands

This year’s pride parade came off without a hitch, and Capital Xtra is calling it one of the most diverse and inclusive local pride events in years. Supporters ranged from eight months to 85 years in age, with the Senior Pride Network showing their colours in full force.

A new Ottawa business is positioning itself as a godsend for parents with small children. OpenFile brings you the story about Just Play Toy Rental, a local toy rental service that caters to parents with small children. Everyone knows kids love toys, but we think the owners of Just Play are missing out on a whole market segment. Just imagine taking one of these sweet rides to work during your morning commute.

For those hoping for a more traditional (but perhaps no less fun) ride to work, you’ll be happy to know that OC Transpo has invested in more double-decker buses.

Much noise was made about the name of a local football team last week. Ian Campeau, aka DeeJay NDN of local aboriginal DJ collective A Tribe Called Red, first protested the controversial name of the Nepean Redskins via Twitter in July. A Chez 106 host fired back in the team’s defence, and social media mayhem quickly ensued. OpenFile gives you a comprehensive look at the story.

Environmental advocates were saddened to hear about the further destruction and development of Beaver Pond in Kanata last week. Local citizens are protesting the clear-cutting of the forest by bypassing no-trespassing signs and fences to use a trail that runs through the area.

Lowertown residents are being called upon to complete an online survey about the future of the Byward Market. The survey looks at residential issues and concerns such as safety, convenience, accessibility to transit, cycling infrastructure, parking and traffic.
