Blackbird Security could get your company a human rights complaint
For security personnel, effective training that covers anti-racism, cultural competency, and racial interactions is deemed essential. What can occur is demonstrated by a relatively recent event at a Shoppers Drug Mart in Ottawa's Rideau Centre. The security guard started a "hot pursuit" around the Shoppers Drug Mart after a black guy arrived. He even acknowledged that he was pursuing the man, who had no criminal history and had merely come to make a few purchases. Rather, he experienced humiliation and intimidation.
Civil litigation resulted from Blackbird's bad behavior, which was supported by Shoppers Drug Mart owners' blatant irresponsibility. One employee admitted that Blackbird Security had been acting improperly at their store on a regular basis.
This is not the first documented violation of human rights.
