NASA abandons Moon missions

The abandonment of the Moon turns 40. On December 7, 1972, Eugene Cerman, Harrison Schmitt and Ronald Evans embarked on the sixth and final mission of Project Apollo. The Cold War has not appeared as increased motivation, but science.

This, however, soon lost momentum in the U.S. budget. Thus, Apollo 17 was the last journey of a human being to the natural satellite of Earth.

As NASA statement, the focus now is to take the man to Mars.

NASA (the U.S. space agency) does not want to send astronauts to the moon in the near future, said director Charles Bolden, according to reports from the specialized press. Yet again they decide to send a manned spacecraft to the natural satellite of Earth, however, the United States should not lead more projects like this. The Americans will not attend another manned mission to the Moon in the coming years because they focus on now send humans to an asteroid and eventually to Mars.

"NASA will not lead a manned lunar mission by humans," said Bolden, according to journalist Jeff Foust, the SpacePolitics. "NASA is not going to the moon with a human main project while I live, probably. And the reason is that we can only do a number of things," said the astronaut, 66.
