CFL: Alouettes present surprise starter



MONTREAL — Montreal Alouettes fullback Patrick Lavoie had surgery on his lower back Monday and is expected to recover in time for the 2013 CFL season. The club said the surgery was successful. Lavoie will miss a mini-camp April 24-26 in Orlando, Fla., but should be ready to open the season June 27 in Winnipeg. Lavoie, who was discharged from hospital a few hours after surgery, sustained the injury last season and aggravated it in off-season training. The native of Ste-Flavie, Que., was Montreal’s first pick — in the second round, 11th overall — in the 2012 CFL draft and was the club’s top rookie.
