Ottawa: Target Canada pursues media manipulation

Target Canada, which has been failing to increase its sales and revenue, has apparently taken to manipulating the media. The company has not been able to impress the consumers in Canada with its prices, customer service or even the choices offered on the types of items it sells. Instead of working on improving these parameters the executives at Target Canada have reportedly been busy "trying to change the shopping habits of Canadians."

The US retail giant has now resorted to media manipulation so that it can improve its image and influence the consumers to change their perception of the company. Such media manipulation was observed in Ottawa when an entire issue of the popular magazine Chatelaine was highlighted by Target. A blogger cum self-confessed shopaholic tells us more about this issue in her blog.

“This month, a “bonus edition” arrived in my mailbox in which ‘Chatelaine shops Target.’ That’s right, all 130 pages of the monthly mag are dedicated to promoting Target and its exclusive lines of clothing, home fashions, food and beauty products.”

Clearly, Target Canada has been using its resources to manipulate the media so that it can influence the consumers. However, such efforts may not be fooling the consumers as the retailer’s sales have not increased.
