'Toronto' The top 10 Events in Toronto for April 2016
The top events in Toronto for April will have you ushering in the warm weather with food, film, fashion, tech and even opera.
Here are my picks for the top events in Toronto this April.
Level Up (April 6)
If you're a fan of gaming but want to do something a bit more engaging
than marathoning Call of Duty for hours on end, head to Level Up at the
Design Exchange. The event is now in its 6th year and showcases the top
student-designed and developed video games. Bonus: it's 100% free to
attend.
Tim McCready's House Party: 159 Manning at the Gladstone Hotel (April 8)
As many seasoned Toronto partygoers know, 159 Manning throws one hell of a rager. Well, good news, for one night only Tim McCready is ditching his sweet party pad and bringing an epic bash to the Gladstone. Expect tall boys, finger foods, live music and all the house party shenanigans you could ever dream of.
MIDNIGHT MRKT (April 8)
The recurring night market is returning to 2nd Floor Events for its
spring edition. As per usual, you'll find local, independent retailers
and street food vendors selling everything from eco-friendly paper goods
to handcrafted jewellery. To make shopping more interesting there will
be plenty of boozy drinks on hand and DJs spinning all night.
Fashion Art Toronto (FAT) (April 12-16)
Toronto Fashion Week
may have wrapped, but that doesn't mean you should trade in your more
eccentric duds for a Roots' sweat suit anytime soon. Expect an
impressive roster of fashion-focused runway shows, photography, art
exhibits, installations, performances and films.
Images Festival (April 14-23)
Toronto's annual experimental film and media event boasts a bevy of
short screenings, installations, performances, art exhibits and more at
local galleries.
Gladstone Grow Op 2016 (April 21-24)
Head to the Gladstone
for an exhibition built to "reframe our understanding of the shifting
boundaries between urban and wild, culture and nature." Aside from
seeing some thought-provoking works, you'll also get to catch the Alternative Food & Drink Show, which will showcase unique dishes made from alternative ingredients.
Toronto Animation Arts Festival International (TAAFI) (April 22-24)
From three days George Brown College's Waterfront Campus will be
transformed into a hub for animation lovers. The event will host over 30
exhibitors and industry-professional speakers who will be sharing tips
and tricks of the trade.
Opera Peep Show (April 28-30)
Four Toronto indie opera companies are coming together at the end of the
month to host the Opera Peep Show at the Campbell House Museum. The
choose-your-own-adventure type experience involves audience members
selecting different opera scenes off a menu and then paying a fee to
enter already in-progress shows happening in various rooms around the
museum.
Digifest (April 28-30)
Digifest is taking over the Corus Quay building at the end of the month
to showcase the latest and greatest advances in digital media, art,
design and technology. Following the formula of year's past, the event
will boast international speakers, interactive installations
collaborative workshops and more.
Hot Docs(April 28-May 8)
If you reserve your Netflix account for David Attenborough-narrated
flicks and Cowspiracy-like educational movies, Hot Docs is the place to
be this spring. The documentary festival is the largest of its kind in
North America and shows over 200 films from Canada and around the world
to massive audiences.
