Liberals: Harper government cuts to National Parks cruel

Few images of Canada are more iconic than our national parks. They are a source of pride for all Canadians and a vibrant showpiece of our tourism industry.

Yet the Conservative government is slashing tens of millions of dollars and cutting over 600 jobs from national parks and historic sites all across Canada, like St Lawrence Islands, Bruce Peninsula, Point Pelee and Georgian Bay Islands. This is on top of a $42 million cut last year.

Canada’s national parks add $3 billion to our economy and create the equivalent of 41,000 jobs in our communities. These Conservative cuts will not only mean shorter seasons and limited hours of operation, they will also hurt small businesses that depend on visitors to national parks and historic sites for customers.

The government has no vision worthy of this great country. The Liberal Party of Canada will oppose their cuts in every way possible.
