Poll: Trudeau has good chance of majority government

A recent poll for the National Post, published May 23rd shows 44 percent of people polled would vote for Justin Trudeau’s Liberal party. Results from the Forum Poll also had the current Conservative Party at 27 percent support, and the official opposition NDP at 20 percent support.

The results are not overly surprising especially when considering all of the recent scandals currently plaguing the Conservative government. From the Senate expenses scandal concerning Mike Duffy, to the legal problems for other Senate members such as Patrick Brazeau, it’s safe to say things are not looking good for Stephen Harper’s Conservatives right now.

Justin Trudeau is riding this wave of steadily increasing popularity, and should things continue going the way they are, the younger Trudeau could have a very good chance at being Prime Minister, and possibly even receiving a Majority government. A petition has been circulating on social media recently, originating from the Liberal party website demanding Stephen Harper tell all that he knows about the Mike Duffy expenses scandal.

For those unfamiliar with this recent debacle, it saw one of Harper’s advisors giving Senator Mike Duffy a cheque for $90,000 just as he was about to be audited after claiming that amount for living expenses. Although Stephen Harper has denied any knowledge of the incident saying that he is “frustrated, and sorry, and angry,” the allegations of corruption have not gone unnoticed by Canadians and will continue to hurt the Conservatives in the next election.

It seems Justin Trudeau and the Liberals may not have to work too hard at their campaign if more scandals and allegations of less than above board behaviour continues to appear. The way in which Mr. Harper has conducted himself after these scandals came out has not been helping him. Canadians want, and deserve answers. The avoidance behaviour the Prime Minister has been exhibiting has only been hurting him, as recent polls have suggested.
