Canada's capital parties this weekend
It’s another full weekend, Ottawa. At the very least, you’re going to have to choose between elegant picnicking, documentaries and a bakery birthday party – and there are even more options to add to that mix below.
Slim Moore and the Mar-Kays have their cd release party tonight at Babylon, while it’s an evenin’ with The Walkouts at the Elmdale, a bit of Stevie Wonder out west and Indie Night at GigSpace. On Friday, Dan Mangan sweeps into town with his near-rhyming name, and Grey Kingdom with Baby Eagle will be at Raw Sugar. It’s Zebrassiers’ release party that night, too, while the Big Soul Project hosts a fundraiser for Gift of Gambia. EveningFest will also raise funds on Saturday, and you can try your hand at cave chanting out in Eganville. We’ve got another album release on Saturday with Flying Down Thunder and Rise Ashen at Mercury Lounge, and BRAIDS is at Babylon that night. For Sunday, head out for the final event of Auntie Loo’s birthday weekend celebrations – they’ll have burlesque, music, and you might just even get to decorate your very own cupcake. Also that night, Data Romance and The Glass Chain stop by the Raw to play a show, while The Flatliners are at Mavericks and The Pack A.D. is at Cafe Dekcuf.
For you musical fans, while we don’t have any actual musical theatre to offer you, there is a huge costume and clothing sale happening down at Orpheus House on Saturday. (Perfect for those of you who need a great Halloween costume!) In actual performances, Speed-the-plow continues down at the Gladstone and comic Andrea Martin can be found at Centrepointe Theatre.
