Nutrition may be the key to staying cancer free
A recently release report entitled Policy and Action for Cancer Prevention , published by the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) and American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR), has estimated about 45 per cent of colon cancer cases and 38 per cent of breast cancer cases in the United States could be prevented.
The proposition that cancer might be preventable, and that food, nutrition, physical activity, and body composition might affect the risk of cancer, is being supported by research from the experts in the field. Throughout history, wise choices of food and drink and of habitual behavior have been recommended to protect against cancer, as well as other diseases.
The overall purpose of the report is to help prevent cancer by recommending rational policies and effective actions at all levels and to achieve the public health goals in the 2007 WCRF/AICR Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity, and the Prevention of Cancer: a Global Perspective report. The first report published in 1997 supports the theory that cancer is largely preventable. Much still needs to be learned, but enough is known about how this can be done.
