Indian-controlled Kashmir: Two Civilians Killed







Two civilians were killed in firing by Army in Markandal area of Sumbal in Bandipore district of Indian controlled Kashmir late last night provoking strong protests in the area.

Sources told that Army had laid a cordon of few houses in Markandal and during which two civilians were killed. Reports suggest that one youth was killed during the seige while other one was killed when Army opened fire on the protesters soon after the Fajr prayers. One youth is around 23 and other is 18. Five more civilians were injured in the protests. The bodies have been brought to Srinagar for post-mortem.

Situation in area is tense and senior police and civil officials have rushed to spot. Meanwhile the Army is also holding a briefing on the incident.
