Fukushima presents severe earthquake risk

People do not even give a second thought to what goes on at Fukushima after the incident a couple of years ago. The danger of another severe earthquake and tsunami looms large there, even today. Several people are working tirelessly under stressful conditions to deal with the radioactive waste even after the big accident. Another possibility of an earthquake and tsunami hitting the power plant again cannot be dismissed casually.

The pool of fuel at Fukushima Unit Reactor 4 is a definite short term threat to the whole world. For the North American Continent, it can become a national security issue of alarming proportions. The news may be disturbing enough, but it is a fact that the ground beneath Unit 4 is sinking gradually. It has sunk over four feet in the last couple of years. It is sinking unevenly. The building may tilt sooner or later. If the fuel pools are not stabilized, then there is a possibility of hydraulic fracturing that can cause an earthquake within five hundred feet of this plant.

Japanese seismologists have also stated that the earlier earthquake may have disturbed the faults nearby, making this area prone to another severe earthquake. It is a cause for concern and there is no room for complacency here.
