Hand Gun Hoax lands Kingston man in Ontario Jail

(TheWhig.com) -- A man who frightened passers-by who spotted him pacing in a parking lot with what appeared to be a drawn handgun is spending 90 days in jail.

Brady P. Ford, 41, was convicted in Kingston's Ontario Court of Justice of possessing a prohibited flick knife and a replica handgun, both for a purpose dangerous to the public peace, possession of a prohibited weapon in violation of a court-ordered weapons prohibition and illegal possession of seven oxycontin pills.

Crown attorney Ross Drummond said Ford was reported to Kingston Police on a Monday morning in mid-November by people who observed him pacing in the parking lot at 2805 Princess St. with a small dog and what appeared to be a handgun.

The prosecutor told Justice Judith Beaman that Ford was seen to "rack the gun" in the direction of Bayridge Drive and Princess Street, then shove it down the back of his pants.

He was still in the parking lot with his dog when police arrived, Drummond said. They seized a loaded pellet gun and a knife, together with seven blue oxycontin pills found in Ford's jacket pocket.

Beaman was told that Ford claimed to have a prescription for the pills but the pharmacy he identified denied supplying them.

Ford was credited with eight days of pretrial custody. When he gets out of jail he will spend the next 12 months on probation.
