Canadian Basketball: Halifax and London clash for Championship

The Halifax Rainmen and London Lightning battle this Sunday for Canada's professional basketball championship title.

The fifth and final game of the series will be in London, Ontario., on Sunday, March 25, 2012.

Andre Levingston has often heralded particular milestone games as the biggest in franchise history.  Mr. Levingston is the Rainmen's owner.

On Sunday afternoon, the Rainmen will play the biggest game in franchise history — and this time there’s no topping it.

"This is for all the marbles," Levingston said Friday, looking ahead to Game 5 of the National Basketball League of Canada final in London.

"This is big for the organization, it’s big for the city. This is for a championship; we’ve never played for a championship."

The Rainmen forced the deciding tilt in the best-of-five series by sweeping the London Lightning on Wednesday and Thursday in Halifax after the Lightning won the first two contests on their home court, the John Labatt Centre.

Founded in 2011, the National Basketball League of Canada is the country's only professional basketball league.

NBL Canada is committed to developing the next generation of Canadian athletes and raising the excitement and awareness for basketball throughout the country.

Seven teams played in the inaugural 2011-2012 season and the league is poised for continued expansion across Canada. NBL Canada is headquartered in Toronto.
