Olympics: Canadian Divers Meaghan Benfeito, Roseline Filion Win Bronze Medal

Quebec pair Benfeito and Filion has once again maintained their form all through the 10 –metre synchro event to win bronze medal for Canada. This is a repeat of their performance in 2010 in London where they also won bronze medal in the 10 metre synchronized event.

The pair went through all the five competitive rounds to emerge winners of bronze in the event after accumulating 336.18 points. Their competitiveness was a show of dedication to maintain their winning form as was in London in 2010.

The duo was second in the first round with 52.80 points, which placed them in a good balance for the final score. In the second round, the pair put the same score of 52.80. In the third round, they scored 74.70 coming in in position four. They were in the fifth place in their fourth round but struggled through to position three in the final.

And even as China dominated the diving event with Chen Ruolin and Liu Huixia winning gold with 354.00 while Malaysia’s Jun Hoong Cheong and Pandelela Rinong Pamg won silver with 344.34 points, the pair from Canada showed a braced competition full of energy and dedication.

China’s Chen, a five-time Olympic gold medalist, remains the title winner ever since 2006. Chen has won all the event titles since 2006 and becomes among one of the most winners of the title in the Olympic diving gold medalists.

The pair was fifth in the final round but worked through to third place after a botched dive by the North Koreans gave them a chance to dive through to the podium for the third place. They also leapfrogged the Great Britain in the final dive to come in third after China and Malaysia.
The pool that is used for the event had earlier stoked many questions among spectators, onlookers and divers when it turned a strange green hue.

Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion are among the “Fab IV” on the Canada’s diving team. The entire team consists of Filion, Benfeito, Jennifer Abel and Pamela Ware.

The team will now focus on individual events after a satisfying performance at the Rio 2016 Olympics which continues.
