Toronto doctor feeds poor, gets disciplined

A Toronto doctor, Roland Chee Kong Wong is blamed for misusing the power of his profession. The government said that he has signed the Special Diet Allowance which helped his patients to get monthly rebate of $250 from them.

It was soon realized that there was some motive behind and it was not genuine move, therefore investigation was done after which all the allowances were blocked.
Kong said he has not done anything wrong and was just trying to help the needy. But, nothing soothed the Ministry of Community and Social Services, which not only criticized Wong but also bashed those who took benefit of the scheme. Now, the Government is in look for some stern methods so that such incidents do not get repeated in future.
The allowance scheme was introduced by the Government on April 1, 2011, but soon the government received complaints regarding Wong that he has been filling out forms for his personal benefit.
The Ontario Health Insurance Plan investigated the matter but did not found any wrong doing on the part of Wong, but it could not satisfy the College of Physicians and Surgeons and they introduced an independent investigation.
They found that Dr. Wong is responsible for signing and filling out forms without considering medical restrictions, and neither he confirmed neither dietary restrictions nor allergies of the patients and directly signed out allowance forms.
Verification is the problem, said the College, as it is quite incompetent on his part to not to cross check medical histories of patients. There is no doubt in the fact that he has filled out more than 15,000 forms, said Wong, but stressed on the point that it was done for needy patients.
Hearing in the case would continue till the end of this year, informed the Ministry of Community and Social Services.
