Muzaffarabad -- Pakistani officials on Friday said Indian firing into village close to kashmir;s  defecto border killed a tot and wounded five others including two women.

“A thirteen months  old kid who was wounded in shelling by Indian troops has died at hospital, while five other wounded persons in Kotli district are still under treatment,” Masood-ur-Rehman, deputy commissioner of the area  told.

He said that three women and two men were also injured in the cross-border shelling in village of Rut Karthar on the Line of Control in Kotli district.

Pakistani military has also confirmed the death and injuries to the civilians and termed the Indian shelling as cause of injuries to citizens.

An eye witness in the areas told  Indian forces fired mortar shells on the civilian population, which resulted in the death of a young boy and wounds to five other people.

The Indian and Pakistani forces have been exchanging heavy  fire on Kashmir border since August last month in violation to ceasefire agreement reached between the both countries in 2003.

Thousands of people were killed and wounded on the both sides of line of control (LOC) which serves as defacto border between India and Pakistan and divides Himalayan state into two.

The recent escalation was started between the two countries after the killing of 5 Indian soldiers on LOC on August 5.

India  blames killings on the Pakistani army, but pakistan denied any responsibility and has called for restraint and dialogue.

The Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan met in New York on Sunday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session and pledged to restore calm on their disputed border in Kashmir.

A deadly flare-up along the LoC in January brought a halt to peace talks that had only just resumed following a three-year hiatus sparked by the 2008 attacks in Mumbai that killed 166 people.
