New research says COVID-19 was genetically engineered

The novel coronavirus which led to a global pandemic was bio-engineered in a lab in a deliberate attempt to attack humans, reveals a new study.

Li-Meng Yan, a Chinese virologist and lead researcher, published a study that disproves the common notion that COVID-19 is of natural origins. Yan has been on exile in the United States after making strong claims that the Chinese government were fully aware of the novel coronavirus long before the first official case was reported in Wuhan, December last year.

Since the virus began to spread from Wuhan in China, more than 53 million people have contracted it worldwide, resulting in over 1.3 million deaths, according to statistics. In the U.S. alone, over 12 million cases have been recorded and when the pandemic first broke in the U.S., President Donald Trump claimed the virus was “man-made”. Now, there appears to be some truth in that despite the uproar his comments instigated.

In a 26-page-document, Yan alongside her team of researchers presented a theory that shows the coronavirus pandemic which has put the world on the edge did not originate from nature. The report titled “Unusual Features of the SARS CoV-2 Genome Suggesting Sophisticated Laboratory Modification Rather Than Natural Evolution and Delineation of Its Probable Synthetic Route” was published on Zenodo on September 14, 2020.

Yan co-authored the study with other Chinese scientists Jie Guan, Shu Kang and Shanchang Hu and published the report under the Rule of Law Society & Rule of Law Foundation. This organization was founded by Guo Wengui, a Chinese business magnate who has equally been in exile in the United States after being accused of sexual crimes and corruption charges in China.

Dr. Yan’s claims have been debunked by the World Health Organization and the Chinese government who are maintaining their stance of the virus originating from nature. Yan noted that a contractor Lee Poon was one of the very first individuals to raise an alarm on the rapid spread of COVID-19 before it became public, and the WHO is claiming there is no record of such contractor. Poon made this claim long before the Chinese government stated that the virus was spread from an animal host, most likely a bat, in the popular Wuhan market in China.

However, according to Yan’s research, the novel coronavirus was developed in a government-sponsored lab as the genome sequence of SARS-CoV-2 shows evidence of genetic engineering. This alteration is how “the virus has gained the ability to target humans with enhanced virulence and infectivity”, said the report.

Also, the study shows that COVID-19 had been mutated by the Chinese military using previously identified and naturally occurring coronaviruses in bats. Yan’s research is based off “three lines of evidence” that shows the novel coronavirus was indeed genetically engineered.

Firstly, the genomic sequence of SARS-CoV-2 suspiciously resembles that of an existing coronavirus type found in bats which was discovered by Chinese military laboratories—specifically the Research Institute for Medicine of Nanjing Command in Nanjing, China and the Third Military Medical University in Chongqing, China.

The researcher’s second line of evidence to disprove the natural origin theory of COVID-19 is that, the receptor-binding motif (RMB) present in the Spike protein of SARS-CoV-2, which determines the host specificity of the virus is similar to that of SARS-CoV from the 2003 epidemic in a highly suspicious way.

This genomic evidence points to the fact that the RBM in the novel coronavirus must have been genetically re-engineered.

Lastly, Yan and her team of scientist noted that SARS-CoV-2 contains a special furin-cleavage site in its Spike protein, which is common for its ability to highly enhance viral infectivity and cell tropism. However, this unique cleavage site is absent in this particular type of coronaviruses with natural origins.

Also, the Chinese researchers in supporting their contention that laboratory manipulation is part of the history of SARS-CoV-2, noted that “rare codons associated with this additional sequence suggest the strong possibility that this furin-cleavage site is not the product of natural evolution.”

This means it could have been inserted into the SARS-CoV-2 genome artificially using different techniques other than a simple serial passage or multi-strain recombination events inside co-infected tissue cultures or animals, according to the report.

In summary, Dr. Yan is confident that the novel coronavirus didn’t originate from natural sources neither did it come from the Wuhan seafood market. She and her team have shown that COVID-19 was built as a laboratory product created by altering bat coronaviruses ZC45 and/or ZXC21.

Early coronaviruses, C45 and ZXC21, were discovered between July 2015 and February 2017 and were subsequently isolated and studied by Chinese military laboratories, said the report. However, when the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Centre published a Nature article reporting a suspiciously similar phylogenetic relationship between SARS-CoV-2 and ZC45/ZXC2 rather than with RaTG13, they were quickly closed down for “rectification”.

Yan in her report accuses several huge publications of succumbing to political pressure and consciously trying not to publish articles or findings that are in opposition to the natural origin theory.

“The existing scientific publications supporting a natural origin theory rely heavily on a single piece of evidence – a previously discovered bat coronavirus named RaTG13, which shares a 96% nucleotide sequence identity with SARS-CoV-2,” the report states.
