Montreal International Documentary Festival kicks-off November 9
The Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM) is to honour octogenarian director Frederick Wiseman (pictured) with a major retrospective, screening 10 of his best-known documentaries and opening next month’s event with his latest effort, Crazy Horse.
Crazy Horse has previously played at the New York Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival, and will kick off the 14th edition of RIDM on November 9, before playing later that month in Amsterdam.
The film goes behind the scenes at noted Parisian cabaret house The Crazy Horse which, since 1951, has boasted one of the world’s most extravagant burlesque shows (see a clip of the doc here). RIDM has yet to announce which 10 films of Wiseman’s will be shown for the retrospective, but said the docs will be shown in their original format – in most cases 16mm.
The RIDM is always a great way to travel the world, cinematically speaking; with films from Indonesia, Colombia, China, Egypt, Iran, Mexico, and right here at home on this continent. The festival’s EcoCamera section will delve into the mystical old-growth rainforests of Vancouver Island, the American West and buffalo hunting, and the BP Gulf disaster of 2010. Don’t miss it for the world!
