Toronto: Climate Change causes Mississauga infestation

(WireService.ca) -- Starting from September to December 2011, and aided by the lack of cold weather, ticks are being seen in numbers never seen before in Canada, in one specific area of Mississauga, south of the QEW.

Clarkson Village Animal Hospital and Emergency Services reported over 300 ticks last fall, and the numbers are now continuing to climb. Ticks are picked up outdoors in endemic areas. They will attach onto our pets as well as ourselves. Their head buries under the skin, they suck blood, and if diseases (Lyme disease, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis) are present in the stomach of the tick they will spread in from 1-4 days after first latching onto the skin. We recommend checking all dogs, head to tail, daily in the spring and fall, and removing the tick immediately. Seek veterinary medical attention right away. You can also speak with your veterinarian about the Lyme disease vaccine. At this time, there is no Lyme disease vaccine for people.

The ticks are gross, but the diseases can be deadly. The signs and symptoms of these diseases can be vague, so please speak with your veterinarian or physician if you have any questions or concerns.

For dogs, fairly effective preventive medication is available to go with Heartworm preventive treatment.  There is no current prevention for cats.  For information go to www.canlyme.com, and www.dogsandticks.com.

This year, ticks, and the diseases they carry, are to be taken very seriously.

Climate Change Soup of the Day:

Scientist: Welcome, what can I get you sir?
Voter: What's the soup of the day?
Scientist: Our soup of the day is Global Warming with a side of Climate Blame.
Voter: Good, I'll have the soup, but this time can you heat it up please?
Scientist: Strange considering you fools eat up just about anything we throw at you, hot or cold.
Voter: Will you be offering this same “soup of the day” next week?
Scientist: Next week? We don't know what's happening this week or this coming weekend but we DO know what is happening fifty and a hundred years from now.
Voter: How many climate scientists does it take to change a light bulb?
Scientist: I don't know sir, why don’t you just go ahead and tell me.
Voter: None.
Scientist: None?
Voter: Yes, none. BUT they DO have consensus that it WILL change?
Scientist: Ha ha sir. Do you know why the climate change believer crossed the road?
Voter: No, why?
Scientist: Because he left his purse on the other side.
Voter: Oh ya? Unscramble these letters; "K2ToYto”
Scientist: Bl%w me?
Voter: No, but close. It’s Y2Kyoto.
Scientists: What's that?
Voter: We thought you scientists would know.
Voter: Do you know what the new definition of a climate change denier is?
Scientist: Anyone who is still believes in "WHO" is saying what and not "WHAT" is being said?
Voter: That too but wrong answer. The new denier is anyone who still thinks voters will vote yes to taxing the air with bank funded and corporate-run CARBON TRADING MARKETS ruled by politicians.
Voter: What’s another word for sustainability?
Scientists: That’s easy, poverty! Oh look, your soup is here sir.
Voter: Why thank you very mu………..hey,….…….there’s a fly in my soup!
Scientist: Strange, considering you voters usually eat up just about anything we dish out at you.
Voter: Whatever. Just bring me my roast.
Scientist: Oh you spoke too soon and look; here is your main course sir. Enjoy the roast.
Voter: The roast is really hot but the parsnips are cold.
Scientist: And thus, clear evidence sir that the planet actually IS warming and changing.
Voter: Ok, complete this sentence smart a$$; “CO2 Climate Crisis Science has done to science, liberalism and journalism what suicide bombers and nasty priests did for………….?
Scientist: Religion?
Voter: Correct! Good job girl!
Scientist: Yer too kind, jerk, sir!
Voter: What’s the difference between a climate scientist and a lab coat consultant?
Scientist: Oh DO tell me!
Voter: They both get paid to study effects of an assumed crisis, otherwise known as worst case scenario research. Or as you scientists call it, a consultant’s wet dream.
Scientist: At least it's better than being an unconscionable lazy, copy and paste main-scream media journalist!
Both Voter and Scientist: Hahahahahahahahahahha!
Scientist: Security! SECURITY!!!!!
