Galactic Alignment -- Greatest Scientific Events of 2012

Venus TransitThe year 2012 was an amazing year in the world of science. Out of countless events which were the greatest scientific events of 2012?

Venus Transit

Although this event did just occur in 2010, the Venus transit this spring will not be witnessed again by a living soul because it will not occur for another 105 years. For more information check out this article: Venus Devours the Sun

Higgs Boson Confirmed

On America's Independence Day there was arguably the most important experiment in human history conducted which confirmed the existence of the Higgs Boson. With this particle confirmed the Standard Model of physics is complete. Right now technology is streaming faster than the planet can handle. With this piece of the puzzle in place even more breakthroughs are now scheduled for the horizon.

Galactic Alignment

This event occurs once in about 13000 years and is marked by the sun's path crossing the galactic center of the Milky Way. Although having this occur on the winter solstice makes for a remarkable event indeed. It cannot be truly witnessed as the sun's brightness will mask out all stars especially the creamy milky way centre where the alignment is to occur. This will happen at 9:14 A.M. EST but no truly recognizable event will occur.
