Ottawa Weekend Round Up - Arts and Entertainment

Repost This

Even though the phishers are trying to get us down, we’re still going to help you figure out how to spend your weekend, Ottawa. Green beer aside, you’ve got some pretty spectacular options ahead.

First up? Tonight, you should check out Hey Ocean. And Aiden Knight. And The Donna Litas. Thankfully, they’re all playing at one venue, so you don’t need to show-hop around the city. Competing for your attention this evening is The Reason and Gentlemen Husbands, along with a few others down at Mavericks. And as has become his routine, DJ Memetic stops by Grounded tonight. Peter Elkas stops by the NAC on Friday, while Kestrels and Little Stella rock the casbah at Zaphod’s. Also that night, Social Divide is at the Elmdale, and it’s time again for some Timekode! Saturday? Well, you can support local radio by stopping by Babylon, where Fevers and Roberta Bondar will be playing, with a few other special guests, in a fundraising show for CHUO. (And check out our interview with Fevers on CHUO this afternoon at 4pm!) Wax Mannequin is in town again for another high-energy, toe-tapping show, and Aiden Knight joins Craig Cardiff out at the Black Sheep Saturday, too.

Theatre buffs can celebrate with Gruppo Rubato this weekend – the theatre company is turning ten, and they’re throwing a big fundraising birthday bash down at the GCTC. You can also take in The Player’s Advice to Shakespeare, put on by the New Theatre of Ottawa. The Gladstone Theatre’s Black Box Set theatre festival continues, with two this weekend: Third Time Lucky and Giant Invisible Robot.

Jonathan Hobin’s new show opens tonight at the City Hall Art Gallery, and Olivia Johnston’s 13-18 opens Friday at the SPAO Red Wall Gallery.

In spoken word, Rusty Prisk will be at the Elmdale, and there’s a poetry and open mic night down at Cafe Nostalgica. (Fit in your visits there while you can – it’s not going to be around for long in its current form!) They’re also having a St. Patrick’s Day celebration with Factory Owl. Where else can you take in a truly Irish experience?
