Target Canada: Arrogance plagues American retailer

When is Target Canada going to realize that Canadians have embraced established retailers from Loblaw Co to Walmart Canada long before its arrival, and that its current strategy is doomed to be a failure? Target Canada will arguably continue to drain U.S. profit margins south of the border as Target pursues its arrogant strategies. Target's lack of international experience as a retailer shows under the direction of an apparent smug American corporate elite.

The U.S. company is still assuming that it can change the people’s perception about its prices. Despite the fact that their sales have been dropping below expectations, the executives at Target Canada are still busy, trying to change the ‘shopping habits’ of Canadian consumers. This approach could be disastrous, as the consumers have not shown any signs of changing their ‘shopping habits’ by shopping more at Target Canada stores.

Target has also failed to impress the consumers in Canada with the level of service it offered across its stores in Canada. A survey conducted in the month of August 2013, by a market research company called Forum Research, has that found only 27 per cent of those polled indicated they were “very satisfied” with their experience at Target. The company has clearly failed to understand the needs and embrace expectations of Canadian consumers.
