Stephen Harper betrays Canada's veterans -- Again

Prime Minister Harper made several promises during the federal election campaign on 11 January 2006, concerning the subject of settling issues involved with the spraying of Agent Orange at CFB Gagetown. These promises were made while at a campaign meeting in Woodstock, New Brunswick. Mr. Harper committed to taking proactive steps, should he be elected, to provide relief to veterans and civilians who were poisoned by Agent Orange, Agent Purple and Agent White. The cited sprays were made of dioxin and hexachlorobenzene, both of which are extremely toxic carcinogens.

But guess what? These promises have never been kept.

The exact quotation from Prime Minister Harper is as follows highlighted in blue.

Our government will stand up for full compensation for persons exposed to defoliant spraying during the period from 1956 to 1984. We’ll disclose all information concerning the spraying to veterans and civilians, and will provide medical testing to anyone who may have been exposed.”

Consequently, three key promises were made but not kept.

1) Our government will stand up for full compensation for persons exposed to defoliant spraying during the period from 1956 to 1984

2) We’ll disclose all information concerning the spraying to veterans and civilians

3) and will provide medical testing to anyone who may have been exposed

"We will test everyone affected by the Gagetown spraying and we will compensate everyone affected between 1956 and 1984"

Now over five years later, not one person who was exposed has been provided with medical testing, nor has all information concerning the spraying been disclosed to veterans and civilians and full compensation for persons affected between 1956 and 1984 has NOT been implemented. There was a disgraceful and "totally inadequate" $20,000 ex-gratia payment. But would you trade your life or your health over a 40-year period for $20,000?

These broken promises make Stevie a liar without a conscience.

Mr. Dobbie has quoted the facts of Mr. Harpers broken promises to Gagetown's chemical victims quite clearly and it should give Canadians cause for concern.

Did Mr. Harper intentionally lie to Gagetown's chemical veterans and Canada to increase the number of votes for himself and his party.

Why did Mr. Harper's government call the Gagetown fact finding project an independent study when in fact, Cantox Environmental the company that conducted the health risk assessment of the chemicals sprayed at Gagetown, was owned by the chemical industry at that time and still is today.

I assert that the Gagetown fact finding project was a Harper government ordered fraudulent act designed specifically to limit the government's financial and legal liabilities and I challenge Mr. Harper to prove me wrong.
